CRMJ 2420 Juvenile Justice

This course presents an overview of the juvenile justice system to include a discussion of the history, philosophy, and functions of the juvenile justice system. This course explores theories of delinquency causation, risk factors for delinquency, and intervention strategies for juveniles. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Explore the history, philosophy, and function of an independent juvenile justice system.

2. Discuss theories of delinquency causation.

3. Appraise the role of stakeholders involved in the juvenile justice system including law enforcement, the courts, attorneys, schools, juvenile service providers, the medical community, and department of family services.

4. Discuss the role of the family and other major social institutions such as religion and education in the lives of juveniles.

5. Compare intervention strategies within the juvenile justice system.
