NAIS 4110 Educational Foundations in American Indian Education
This course examines cultural, geographical, linguistic, spiritual, political, and societal factors before, during and after colonization. The student will evaluate teacher-pupil-community relationships that honor culture and language and enhance achievement. (3 lect.)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Combine American Indian experiences in the context of American history, government, and policies as they relate to culture and education.
2. Evaluate the historic process of colonization through education.
3. Integrate traditional ways of life and cultural ways of knowing into contemporary education ..
4. Value the government's Indian Boarding School Policy and the historical legacy it created.
5. Critique research that has driven the direction of American Indian education in the United States.
6. Propose contemporary theories of effective teaching techniques in the American Indian classroom and the multicultural classroom.
7. Create a teaching plan that would be appropriate in American Indian and Euro-American classrooms.
