HMSV 2460 Field Experience in Human Services II

This second level 99-hour supervised field experience is designed to give students the opportunity to integrate previous academic learning with "hands-on" practical experience in a human service setting. When possible, agency placement will be related to each student's program concentration. A weekly one hour seminar, in addition to the agency hours worked, is required. Prerequisites: Completion of HMSV 1460. (1 seminar, 9 practicum)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Successfully complete 99 hours of supervised field experience at an approved agency.

2. Comply with agency confidentiality policy.

3. Research the mission, operations, service population, organization and funding of their field experience agency.

4. Identify potential ethical issues with the agency.

5. Identify cultural issues observed or experienced at the agency.

6. Identify the use of academic concepts and Human Service skills employed while at the field experience.

7. Participate, as permitted, in agency activities such as paperwork and client interaction.

8. Determine whether this type of agency might be a good ?fit? for the student in terms of future employment.

Any information placed here must be adhered to by all instructors:

1. Have agencies and college officials sign the field service agreement. 2. Meet individually with field service supervisor and student to inform each of requirements, and to approve, add to, and/or edit student goals for the field work experience. 3. Ensure understanding of confidentiality requirements. 4. Discuss agency policy on background checks and CWC policy on background checks.
