EQST 2625 Stock Horse Use & Showing II
A continuation of
EQST 2615, this class includes a thorough study of the stock horse and its expected performance in both ranch work and the show ring. The student continues to develop stock horse performance by focusing on: correct horsemanship, reining readiness, penning, working cow horse, snaffle bit and cutting contests. The student must supply a horse and tack for this class. Prerequisite: Completion of
EQST 2615. (2 lect., 2 lab)

- Reining: Improving the maneuvers by adding speed and finesse
- Cutting/ Herd Work: Working the horse out of the herd, Introducing herd holders and turn back riders
- Working Cow Horse: Rules, Boxing, fence work and circling a cow while maintaining the working advantage
- Ranch Horse: Applying the horse to work in real world applications, Versatility Ranch Horse Competitions
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate correct horsemanship
2. Utilize current training methods and theories
3. Develop the skills needed to further advance the reining maneuvers learned in EQST 2615, leading to a more advanced and finished stock horse as a working animal in and out of the show ring
4. Properly position a horse on a cow to maintain the working advantage, both when working flat and when going down the fence
