EQST 1601 Horse Event Production

This course is designed to provide the future equine professional with the necessary tools to organize any show, event, or clinic related to the equine industry. Major topics include: planning, fund-raising, financing, insurance and advertising. These principles are utilized to plan and operate a horse show and clinic sponsored by Central Wyoming College Equine Program. This course may be repeated for a maximum of eight credits applicable toward graduation.  (1 lect., 2 lab; 1 lect., 4 lab; 1 lect., 6 lab) (Max 8)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze the feasibility of hosting an equine event.

2. Evaluate which events will be successful in a variety of communities

3. Determine where and when to host an event including consideration to conflicting area events

4. Evaluate and track safety and liability requirements

5. Perform cost analysis

6. Evaluate needed supplies and work hours

7. Develop effective advertisement

8. Analyze the benefits of community service and the protocol of different cultures

9. Evaluate the success of the events hosted

Fall semester produces events in the fall and plans events for the coming spring. Spring semester produces events in the spring and plans events for the coming fall. For example students have helped with the following: 1. Jackpot Series (open to the public) Barrel Racing, Pole Bending & Roping competitions in Feb. 2. Clinics: (open to the public) Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Showmanship, Trail, Ranch Horse Versatility, English Schooling Show, & English Riding 3. Crowheart Library fundraiser each fall 4. Taking a pony to visit the senior citizens home and to the developmental classes in local schools 5. Help the firemen wrap Christmas gifts 6. Wagon rides with Santa 7. Collect items for families in need for Christmas 8. Easter Egg Hunt for Community at Equine Center 9. Ag Expo (Grooming, Equine Dentistry & Farrier Science Booths)
