EQST 1600 Training the Barrel Horse

The student will study how fundamental concepts and basic horsemanship skills apply to training a barrel horse. Topics covered include conformation and bloodlines, types of equipment and its use, and training methods. Physical and mental conditioning of both horse and rider will also be stressed. The student will be introduced to the National Barrel Horse Association and the concept of 4-D barrel racing.  The course will include a 4-D competition in barrel racing and pole bending. The student must supply a horse and tack for this course. (2 lect., 2 lab)
