CSMO 1500 Intro to Nail Technology
In this course the student will explore the structure, composition, and growth of nails. The student will study diseases and disorders of the skin and nails. The student will assess the importance of proper disinfection and chemistry of nail-related products. Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1701 and CSMO 1702. (3 lect.)

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Describe the nine basic parts of the nail unit.
2. Describe characteristics of normal, healthy nails.
3. Identify diseases and disorders of the nails that should not be treated in a salon.
4. Explain the chemistry of nail polish, acrylic, gel, and cyanoacrylates.
5. Identify bones, muscles, and nerves from the deltoids to the fingertips.
6. Examine proper methods of communication with clients.
7. Explain proper infection control processes for nail services.
