BADM 2010 Legal Environment of Business

This is an introductory survey course providing a broad overview of business-related legal topics. Students are familiarized with the nature and sources of law, court systems, common law, statutory law, constitutional law, administrative law, consumer law, social responsibility and business ethics. Generally offered in fall only. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Identify the correct definition for legal terms.

2. Explain the litigation process and the various alternative dispute resolution methods and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each.

3. Describe the legal issues related to case problems dealing with the topics of the course.

4. Explain the difference between what is legal and what is ethical

5. Identify torts presented in case situations.

6. Explain how contracts arise, how they are enforced, and identify the elements of a contract in case problems.

7. Explain the elements of a contract (contractual capacity, consideration, legal purpose, and mutual assent.

8. Recognize and explain the differences between civil and criminal court procedures

9. Recognize and explain the differences between alternative dispute resolutions.
