ART 1005 Drawing I

This course introduces students to drawing through a variety of medias. The student is encouraged to become visually aware and to develop a technical command of the materials, concepts, and techniques associated with the two-dimensional surface. Lectures and critiques include theory, history, and appreciation of drawing. (2 lect., 4 lab) ARTS

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Render form in pictorial space. Direct observation of still life material will be used to develop a proper ability to translate and understand physical and pictorial space. In and out of class drawings will be used to assess student progress.

2. Successfully arrange/use the elements/principles within the drawing format. In and out of class drawings from observation, quizzes, and handouts will provide the basis for understanding composition.

3. Use the language of art to intelligently discuss and critique their own work as well as the work of others. Students will participate in regular critiques throughout the semester.

4. Have an appreciation of historical and contemporary art and artists. Students will make a presentation on an artist.

5. Develop technical proficiency in various drawing media. Students will create in and out of class drawings.
