AGRI 2030 Contemporary Growing Systems

This course examines alternative methods of growing food in various settings, from large cities to arctic environments. The student will study permaculture principles, hydroponics, aquaponics, and urban farming through lecture presentations, guest speakers, and occasional field trips. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Explain how hydroponics relates to agriculture.

2. Define permaculture.

3. Explain how aquaponics and multiple enterprises can coexist.

4. Explain the differences between aquaponics and hydroponics.

5. Identify ways to use each growing system in different settings and markets.

6. Compare each agricultural system in terms of cost and market potential.
