PFDV 1500 Managing Career Development

This course focuses on career planning and workforce readiness.  The student will explore careers and industries related to their program of study through job searches and career outlook analyses. The student will conduct self-assessment and personal development activities as well as examine the work environment, career path alternatives, job information sources, the job application process, and strategies for successful career management. (3 Lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Evaluate personal skills and interests in relation to various career pathways.

2. Explore career options for personal and professional growth opportunities.

3. Examine keyword search software as used by companies in the job application process.

4. Prepare professional documents related to industry standards and/or best practices, including but not limited to resume, cover letter, and portfolio.

5. Critique the application and interview process related but not limited to legal rights, uncomfortable questions, employment gaps, and professional presence.

6. Analyze effective strategies for managing job acceptance, negotiation process, and/or rejection.
