CMAP 1920 Hardware Maintenance

This course will provide a basic working knowledge of personal computer hardware components and system design. The course includes hands-on experience in component installation and upgrading. Troubleshooting techniques will be emphasized including hands-on experience in debugging problematic systems. (4 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Discuss, identify, list, or describe the hardware requirements of a personal computer system, and the function of component elements of personal computing equipment

2. Demonstrate the knowledge and the skills necessary to properly install the components of a personal computer system, including any required software drivers.

3. Demonstrate knowledge of the internal workings of personal computing hardware

4. Demonstrate the knowledge and the skills involved in performing upgrades of personal computer system equipment, including the ability to assess the feasibility and options involved in performing upgrades of older equipment.

5. Apply appropriate trouble-shooting techniques to diagnose and localize the source of problems occurring in a personal computer system.

6. Apply appropriate techniques at the level required of a field service technician to repair a malfunctioning personal computer system.

7. Demonstrate knowledge of preventive maintenance for personal computing equipment.

8. Demonstrate knowledge of requisite safety factors in handling personal computing equipment

9. Demonstrate appropriate goal-oriented interpersonal communication skills in interviewing clients pursuant to diagnosis of malfunctioning personal computing equipment

10. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal communication skills in teaching clients the principals of preventative maintenance for personal computing equipment.

11. Apply proper conflict resolution skills in dealing with clients and colleagues in problem situations.
