General Goals
While each major division of organization has its own particular objectives, they are all committed to the realization of the general goals of the university, and they derive their principal purposes from these goals.
- First, the institution maintains three student development goals:
- Communication: Upon completion of the General Education Program at WLU, students will communicate with clarity, coherence, and persuasiveness.
- Analysis: Upon completion of the General Education program at WLU, students will apply appropriate concepts and methods to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information or texts, implementing suitable strategies to solve problems or relate analyses as appropriate.
- Self and Cultural Awareness: Upon completion of the General Education program at WLU, students will reflect objectively on the human condition through investigation, appreciation, and evaluation of the products, perceptions, expressions, and interrelationships of various cultures.
- The institution is committed to policies and programs contributing to the ongoing process of the professional development and growth of its faculty and staff as a second long-range goal.
- The third long range goal is to promote community service, whereby the institution’s faculty, staff, and students contribute to the community according to their skills and abilities.
- The development of quality teaching constitutes the fourth long range goal of the institution. However, other professional and extracurricular contributions are also to be encouraged and rewarded.
- A fifth long range goal is to maintain an optimal balance among student enrollment, faculty size, and physical plant.
- Finally, the institution intends to maintain goal relevance by measuring progress toward its goals and by periodically reviewing and assessing them.
