Medical Laboratory Science Certificate
This certificate will provide current biology or biology graduates that choose not to attend graduate school with an opportunity to work in the Clinical Laboratory. By completing the course work in this certificate pathway, a biology graduate will be eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry exam (BOC). This ASCP certification is a requirement to work in the field without the traditional B.S MLS degree.
Admission process
The following must be considered to apply for the MLS Certificate Program, unless consulted by the MLS Program Director.
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 to apply. GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
- A Biology student in their senior year (BS in Biology required to finish the certificate program) or Biology graduate are encouraged to apply.
- Immunology required for completion but not for admission– (BIO 317 or CLS 380 & amp; 381)
- Molecular required for completion but not for admission– (BIO 208,460 or CLS 415,416)
- Organic Chemistry required for completion but not for admission.
- All completed General Education requirements.
- Approximate 45 credit hours - depending on substitution.
- Clinical rotation during the Summer Term.
