READ 575 Advanced Literacy Instruction

This course emphasizes the developmental writing process, written versus text comprehension, and multi-sensory instructional practices in teaching writing. As part of this process, candidates will examine the necessary scaffolding for teaching grammar and handwriting to children. This course will also include levels of comprehension, specific comprehension strategies, and direct and indirect (contextual) methods of vocabulary instruction. Various genes of literature and expository text will be used to examine literal, inferential, and evaluative comprehension strategies. As part of this course, candidates will plan and coordinate professional development related to literacy coaching. Must be in MAEd program.
