READ 563 Meth & Pract of Multisen Instr

This course provides the fundamentals of word structure knowledge as the foundational piece of literacy instruction. Candidates will study and demonstrate competence in the understanding of phonology, orthography, morphology, and semantics as part research-validated multi-sensory instruction. Special emphasis will be given to the explicit teaching of phonics; candidates will identify, pronounce, classify, and compare the consonant and vowel phonemes of English, identify and teach syllabication, explain common spelling patterns and deviations, describe typical phonological skill development and instruction, and identify effective handwriting instruction and intervention. Prequisite: Read 562.
