PA 538 Medical Microbiology
The student will discuss the mechanisms of microbial pathogenicity and common organisms associated with specific infectious diseases. Students will cover basic structure and physiology, ptahogenicity, bacertial growth, virulence factors and basic epidemiology. Organisms covered include bacteria, fungi, parasites, mycoplasmas, rickettsias, chlamydias, spirochetes, vibrios, and viruses. Upon completion of the course students will become familiar with important micro-organisms and their roles in infectious diseases in preparation for advanced coursework in pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical medicine.
