READ 312 Phonics & Wrd Structure Know

This course is an examination of the foundations of literacy with particular emphasis on knowledge of explicit word structure knowledge through multisensory language instruction. Students will study phonology, morphology, orthography, and semantics. Students will examine the progression of phonological skill development including typical and atypical skill development relative to oral language, phonemic awareness, phonetics, alphabetic principle, printed word recognition, and spelling. Students will understand the design of instruction from sounds to letters, to word recognition, and spelling.
