PHIL 402 Philosophy of Law

This course examines fundamental topics in the philosophy of law, including the nature and content of law, its relation to morality, the obligation to obey the law, and theories of judicial reasoning, as well as philosophical issues associated with punishment, responsibility, and liberty. It also addresses concerns in the practice of law, including racism and sexism in law, along with  questions of individual rights and privacy. Readings include traditional and contemporary legal theory, case studies, and court decisions. Pre-req: ENG 102 or ENG 103.
