PHTH 8364 Clinical Medicine II

This course introduces topics in prosthetics and orthotics, women’s health and pelvic floor rehabilitation, musculoskeletal ultrasound and electroneuromyography. The prosthetics and orthotics module begins by reviewing foundational principles of human movement of the upper and lower extremities and then applies those principles to patients with lower extremity amputation. Students will be introduced to concepts surrounding women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction and discuss the implications for physical therapy practice. The use and utility of musculoskeletal ultrasound in physical therapy practice will be discussed. Additionally, the course will introduce students to electroneuromyography, with an emphasis on its use and interpretation of muscle and nerve integrity testing via nerve conduction velocity techniques and electromyography.
