PHTH 8361 Clinical Medicine I

This course introduces topics in diagnostic tests and imaging, pain science, tissue healing and wound care. The course will describe the use and efficacy of common laboratory tests, normative ranges and their application to physical therapy practice. Additionally, students will develop an understanding of the diagnostic utility and uses of various imaging modalities such as x-ray, CT scan and MRI. Foundational concepts related to pain science will be explored and lay the groundwork for students to apply these principles in patient care in subsequent courses. Students will also review the structure and function of the integumentary and lymphatic systems as well as the management of burns, pressure, ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous ulcers, infections, and lymphedema. Treatment interventions will include discussion or application of the use of universal precautions, wound healing, and diseases of the skin.
