SPED 1120 Students in Disabilities

This is an introductory course to expose students to the experiences of children and adults with exceptionalities. This course focuses on persons with disabilities in the U.S. Students will examine the issues surrounding disability and access issues in the local community and around the country. Students will develop a multimedia project that focuses on developing decision-making skills for transforming academic material into hands-on activities and exercises to teach socialization and life skills with a focus on using technology to support the teaching and learning process. Students will also be involved in hands-on learning situations involving adults with disabilities in the community, with the goal of understanding the challenges faced by people with disabilities as well as brainstorming innovative solutions to some of these challenges.
