SPAN 4323 Spanish American Novel

Begins with a study of literary and historical influence in the 19th century Spanish-American Gaucho and Costumbrista novels and those showing European influence: Guiraldes, Blest Gana, Gamboa. Examination of recent literary trends: Mallea, Sabato, Roa Bastos, Vargas Llosa. Taught in Spanish.
