POLS 4344 Green Political Theory

What does it mean to be human and aspire to the "good life" in a world of ecological limits and unstable consumption? What are the implications for the organization of the political life and the values underpinning it? The imperatives of ecological sustainability are potentially at odds with the understanding of democracy, individual liberties, and justice on which our society is ostensibly based. Yet another models or political organization exist in theory and practice. This course explores the tension between liberal political values and ecological sustainability, familiarizing students with debates in the green political thought literature.
