Dance (Teacher Certification), Bachelor of Arts
(Focus: 6th – 12th Grade Teacher Certification)
This program leads to a profession which requires an occupational license as defined under Texas Occupations Code 58.001 This requires that all applicants seeking to become licensed must undergo a criminal background check prior to licensure. Students in this program should check with the College of Education and P-16 Integration on the requirements for a criminal background check prior to student teaching.
The Dance Program holds entry auditions by appointment and/or through assessment during initial technique classes, which will determine whether there has been adequate progression to continue as a Dance major.

Core Curriculum Requirements – 42 Hours
Students must fulfill the Core Curriculum requirements. The courses listed below satisfy both degree requirements and Core Curriculum requirements.
Life and Physical Sciences – 6 hours
Three credit hours from the lecture component of BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 will be applied towards this requirement.
Creative Arts – 3 hours
Select any creative arts course from the approved core curriculum except DANC 2323 Dance Appreciation.
Integrative and Experiential Learning – 2 hours
Science Labs
Complete the one-credit hour labs for
BIOL 2401 and
BIOL 2402.

Dance Technique – 16 hours (12 advanced)
Students must complete 16 total technique hours, of which 12 hours must be advanced. Students must choose two techniques and complete a minimum of 6 hours in each (one technique must be Modern or Ballet). Additionally, students must complete a minimum of 4 hours, at least 2 hours each from the remaining two techniques. Technique areas are listed below:

Admission requirements
Official entry into Dance Program is through an interview process at the end of the required course, Music for Dancers (DANC 2303), and a 2.50 core curriculum GPA.
Progression requirements
For all technique Courses, a minimum of one year required at each level and/or faculty approval to advance. Must have a grade of ‘C’ or better in all DANC courses. For teacher certification, students must apply for admission and be accepted to the College of Education and P-16 Integration prior to enrolling in teacher certification courses. Students unable to be admitted to EDUC 4611 will be required to substitute for 6 advanced hours, as recommended by advisor.
Graduation requirements
To graduate, a minimum of 120 hours plus GPA's 2.5 or greater in Major, Minor, and General Education; a ranking of Satisfactory or higher in Professional Portfolio.
