EDG 623 Instructional Practices in Special Education (Advanced)

This course surveys curriculum design for students with mild/moderate disabilities. Special teaching techniques, as well as creating appropriate learning environments consistent with maintaining the least restrictive environment, are covered. Individualized instruction, modification of the Common Core based on the Universal Design for Learning, differentiated instruction, and designing, implementing, and evaluating Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives are addressed. Fieldwork includes actual case studies for determining instructional needs of students and creating appropriate IEPs. The student are required to interpret evaluation data and complete an in-depth study of appropriate instructional practices in special education based on evaluation and IEP data.
