HUS-3060 Contemporary Human Services Practice

This course examines the professional landscape of human services through an applied, simulation-based lens. Using Common Ground Community Services, a fictional nonprofit organization based in Trenton, N.J., as the course's central case study, students will engage with real-world organizational challenges across six thematic modules. Building on foundational knowledge in human services, students will apply evidence-based practice, ethical reasoning, cultural competence, and professional skills to scenarios that reflect the demands of contemporary human service work. Each module places students inside a different challenge facing Common Ground Community Services, from ethical dilemmas and cultural responsiveness to environmental justice and career readiness, asking them to think and act like the professionals they are becoming.
