NUR-6410 Advanced Pharmacology for Prescribers
This course is designed for nurse practitioners seeking prescriptive authority and provides comprehensive preparation for the safe and effective pharmacological management of patients across all age groups. Students will review and apply principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics in the clinical decision-making process for prescribing, monitoring, and managing drugs used in self-resolving episodic conditions and chronic conditions. This course focuses on clinical decision-making in the prescribing, monitoring, and management of pharmacotherapeutic agents suitable for culturally diverse patients with varying individual needs. Emphasis is placed on proactive risk assessment, prevention of adverse events, and patient education strategies. State and federal laws and processes regulating prescriptive practice and prescriptive authority as well as ethical considerations, are integrated throughout the course.
