CRMJ 3050 Cultural Diversity in Law Enforcement

This course offers a comprehensive, critical, and balanced examination of issues relating to cultural diversity including neuropsychological, generational, mental health, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and physical ability. The student will examine strategies to encourage successful interactions and outcomes with people from these diverse populations both in the workplace and as law enforcement officers from the first encounter through imprisonment. The student will evaluate crisis intervention techniques to improve the safety of officers, individuals, and families. (3 lect.)

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze the plurality of cultural diversity and its influence on the workplace and law enforcement.

2. Compare and contrast the cultures of neuropsychological, generational, mental health, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and physical ability.

3. Investigate strategies and techniques for professional and safe interactions with different cultures in both the workplace and the community.

4. Evaluate the influence of bias on interpersonal behavior and community relationships.

5. Evaluate how cultural diversity affects law enforcement operations.
