CRMJ 1505 Intermediate Virtual Firearms Training
This course is a continuation of Basic Virtual Firearms Training (
CRMJ 1500), and furthers the study of issues that may apply when responding to emergency situations and evaluating possible alternatives and options using the Virtual Firearms Training Software. Training in stressful situations will challenge the student to perform and exhibit critical, judgmental, creative thinking, and communication skills under simulated real-life conditions. The use of certain law enforcement weapons, both lethal and less lethal, and the use of state-of-the-art Virtual Firearms Training Technology in safe and controlled environments is briefly reviewed. Students will be required to respond to scenarios involving continuum of force decisions. The focus of this course is not on firearms skills, handling of firearms, or proficiency with firearms. This course is not intended to, nor does it, qualify the student to meet any certification, licensing, or any other requirement for weapon ownership, possession, use or safety. Prerequisite: Completion of Basic Virtual Firearms Training (
CRMJ 1500) or concurrent enrollment. (1 lect.)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of virtual weapons and shooting techniques.
2. Demonstrate basic fundamental knowledge of use of force and continuum of force using time sensitive, critical, creative thinking, and judgmental decision-making skills.
3. Discuss and explain the use of critical, judgmental, and communication skills when reacting to shoot and don’t shoot situations.
4. Apply and explain the creative, critical thinking, and communication skills used in reacting to stressful situations of an immediate and emergency nature.
5. Interpret, differentiate, and explain the different nature of certain emergency situations.
6. Examine and practice shoot and don’t shoot options and alternatives.
7. Demonstrate debriefing techniques by analyzing data, reviewing facts, evaluating and communicating information, and exercising judgmental decisions while performing in time sensitive and emergency situations.
