PSYC 2300 Developmental Psychology
The development and behavior of children from conception to adolescence, with emphasis on the major roles played by maturation and learning. Prerequisite: Completion of 4 credit hours of psychology or permission of instructor. (3 lect.)

- Physical development and its relationship to emotion, cognitive and social development
- The impact of the family and culture
- Diseases and growth stumbling blocks that might effect development
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. The various theories of child development, including cognitive, learning, psychodynamic, systems, evolutionary, and neuropsychological.
2. The biological, emotional and cognitive state of the child from prenatal development through adolescence.
3. The impact of the family system, peers, the school system and technology on the developing child.
4. The development of gender roles in children.
5. The development of intellectual and moral development in children.
6. The impact of culture on children, and the variety of ways in which different cultures raise children.
