NAIS 4340 Natural Resource Management on Western Reservations
This course examines natural resource management techniques on Indian reservations. The focus is on management and planning of water, grazing extractive industries, and forestry as tribal revenue for economic development. Fieldwork on the Winder River Indian Reservation is included. (3 lect.)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Integrate traditional ecological knowledge into tribal resource management.
2. Evaluate the factors in water, grassland, forestry, and extractive activity management.
3. Critique the political and legal decisions that influence American Indian natural resource management.
4. Assemble data on tribal land holdings, natural resources, and land utilization on the reservation and ceded territories with reserved treaty rights.
5. Design a research plan for tribal natural resource management incorporating traditional ecological knowledge.
