In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
Evaluate the importance of Social Studies and its purpose in primary educational environments.
Demonstrate proficiency in the Social Sciences, including History, Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology, as well as the Humanities.
Explain the role of inquiry, concepts, and essential questions in Social Studies curriculum units.
Identify effective instructional strategies for teaching concepts, skills, and attitudes in the elementary classroom.
Identify effective strategies for assessing Social Studies learning standards in the classroom.
Evaluate resources, including community resources, for Social Studies curriculum.
Enhance the concept and experience of thoughtful democratic citizenship.
Consider social issues and current events in lesson planning.
Explore integrated and themed curricula for interdisciplinary Social Studies.
Discuss how to incorporate standards in Social Studies lesson planning and instructional delivery.
