This course is an introduction to the study of business administration from the standpoint of management operating in a contemporary economic, political and social environment. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Understand business-related terminology and be able to express it in his or her words.

2. Effectively research and present a paper on a business-related topic.

3. Explain business functions and recognize the differences between them. These functions include accounting, economics, management (human resource management, production and operations management), and marketing.

4. Assess the importance of business in his/her day-to-day living.

5. Describe management functions and the decision-making process.

6. Assess the importance of business ethics and social responsibility.

7. Compare and contrast types of business ownership.

8. Contrast types of organizational design (i.e. decentralized versus centralized)

9. Apply marketing mix concepts for specific products.

10. Identify marketing mix concepts for a product.
