HLED 1245 Basic Life Support Certification

In this course, the student will recognize life-threatening emergencies, perform high-quality CPR, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) device. A blended delivery format includes a required online component followed by a hands-on skills session led by an instructor in the campus lab. Following completion, the student will receive American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification, valid for two years. (.5 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Describe the series of steps in the Chain of Survival.

2. Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.

3. Demonstrate early and appropriate use of an AED device.

4. Deliver ventilations using a barrier device.

5. Participate as an effective team member during multiple rescuer CPR.

6. Explain technique for relieving foreign body airway obstruction in adults and infants.
