Data science is a new interdisciplinary field that incorporates computer science, statistics, and mathematical modeling, with applications in business, government, the life sciences, social sciences, and many other areas. It capitalizes on the enormous explosion in available data that the world has seen over the last decades and that will continue. Data Analytics is a subset field of study within data science, focusing on how data can be effectively analyzed and used to support insight and decision making. The goal of data science and analytics is to apply data to gain insight and make decisions relating to phenomena that occur in the “real world.” The Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics provides an advanced study of operational, data modeling, and decision-making techniques based on data.
